Artist Bio

Picture of Jody GerberJody Gerber is a fine artist and resides in the desert of Utah. She received a Master of Fine Arts in Painting at Laguna College of Art + Design in Laguna Beach, California, and previously earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art, magna cum laude, from Dixie State University. Jody is a national award-winning painter and is involved in the Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America, and Laguna Plein Air Painters Association. As an undergraduate, she did a study abroad in Rome, Italy. This solidified her love of art and desire to learn more, impacting the process, content, and direction of her work.

Jody is passionate about art. Creativity and imagination started in her youth and continued. Inspiration comes from the places she calls home, the Pacific Northwest, the Southwest desert, and the California coast. Jody spent her younger years playing in the desert, riding motorcycles, and gaining respect for nature and animals. Currently, she enjoys cycling, hiking, being outdoors and, when not painting, visiting the surrounding National Parks.

After raising her children, Jody completed her formal art training while mainly focusing on the figure and portraiture. This involved a deep study of human anatomy to understand proportions and movement. Now she is using this information to research the complexity of animals. Jody also sees the value of plein air painting and drawing from life. This involves seeing an object and changing it into her own creation. Taking a subject from a three-dimensional form and making it into a two-dimensional work of art is no simple task. She plans to pursue this lifelong endeavor throughout her life.
